Welcome!

I am interested in pattern formation in biological membranes and on other biological surfaces, non-equilibrium phase transitions, spatial population genetics, and strongly driven systems. Check out the research tab for more details. My group is based at the University of Tennessee in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. If you are interested in joining my group, please contact me (mlavrent AT utk.edu)!

Before moving to UT, I worked for three years as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Pennsylvania in the Soft Condensed Matter Theory group. I was a graduate student at Harvard University from 2008 to 2014, working under the supervision of David R. Nelson.  I received a B. A. in Physics and Mathematics from Kenyon College in 2008.  For more details, click here for my CV.
